Magic City squadron is growing by leaps and bounds - we are currently the second largest squadron in the state, just 1 member shy of Bismarck's current membership level. In order to continue this growth, we have arranged several very important events in the next month to increase our community exposure and continue gaining new members (especially cadets!). - Dakota Territory Air Museum fly-in breakfast: Sunday 19 August, 8-11 am Cadets will be assisting with flight line marshalling (UOD: BDUs). All CAP members are encouraged to attend this local event to say thanks to DTAM for all the support they give our squadron throughout the year. You'll also get to hear the winner of the Cessna 140 aircraft sweepstakes announced at 11 am. - Operation Heros: Saturday 25 August, 9 am - 2 pm (volunteers: 8 am - 3 pm) Children of military parents are invited to attend this mock deployment. All registered participants will be activated by recall roster to attend briefings, receive dog tags and a shot record, have chem suits fitted, view demonstrations, and board a military aircraft for mock transport. Cadets and senior members are encouraged to assist with setup, teardown, and staffing a CAP display booth (UOD: BDUs or golf shirt). Our booth will be a trial run for our Northern Neighbors Day display, and we will have a quick aerospace activity for the kids who stop by. To help with this event: contact Maj Sundhagen at 852-5150 or joonbug47 at yahoo.com by 22 August. - Northern Neighbors Day: Saturday 8 August, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Cadets will be assisting with flight line marshalling for the civilian aircraft fly-in from 7:30 - 9:30 am and again at 5:30 pm (UOD: BDUs for flight line marshalling, flight suits or golf shirt for static displays, blues or BDUs or golf shirt for display booth). Cadets and senior members are needed to staff the CAP display tables inside the hangar, as well as assist with static aircraft displays (we will have both a 172 and a 182 on display). Our booth will consist of the wing display board and 1-2 additional display boards, plus two tables for hands-on aerospace activities for kids. If you can volunteer 2 hours to staff the displays, contact Maj Sundhagen at 852-5150 or joonbug47 at yahoo.com by 5 August. Please let me know if you have questions about these activities. Hope to see you at any or all of these exciting events! The activity for Thursday 30 August is a tour of a B-52 on static display at Minot AFB, following by weapons loading demonstrations. Cadets needing rides will meet at the GA terminal of the airport at 6:30 pm for transport to base, where we will meet the rest of the cadets at the Airmen & Family Readiness Center at 7 pm. The cadet uniform is BDUs. Senior members in Magic City Squadron are invited to join us for the tour. Because this is a cadet activity, you must wear an appropriate CAP uniform. (Note: blue CAP polo shirts must be worn with gray dress pants; no denim allowed.) We will meet at the Airmen & Family Readiness Center on base at 7 pm. Non-military members will need a CAP ID and photo ID to access the base. If you need help finding the Family Readiness Center or have any problems getting through the gate, please contact Lt Col Chad Grondahl at 701-240-3942 or chad_grondahl at member.afa.org. Please let me know if you have questions. Hope to see you at the B-52!
